I listened to the entire thing on the way to work this morning and it's exactly what I expected. Not grime and a big fat juicy musical SEND. And also - when the fuck did he become a hip hop artist?
Now I love Chipmunk, and I'm not one to criticise his blatant abandoment of where he originally came from because let's be honest, he must be one of the richest teenagers in his field at the moment. At the same time however, I find it quite unsettling when I hear Drake, Beyonce, Timbaland and Nelly Futardo on a 'Chipmunk' mixtape. I realise the novelty of covering/dubbing American popular music must be exciting (not to mention convenient due to the magnitude of audiences for these songs) but come on - you're a UK artist Chippy...not to mention the self confessed 'grime scene' saviour.
Content wise, Chippy's flow is standardly witty and actually quite adorable but thematically, the whole thing is quite disappointing. Every single song is basically telling everyone who might not rate him to suck out, telling all the men that their girlfriends want him and as previously mentioned, it's simply a big fat indirect to his haters.
Chippy did you not read my tweet the other day?
"You can't hate someone without caring for them so if you have a lot of haters, it means lots of people care about your life..."
You should be flattered!
My favourite track is 2010 featuring King of Grime (and king of Twitter) Wiley and of course She Likes. However the track which stands out most to me is his cover of Beyonce's Sweet Dreams. Only Chip diddy chip could flip diddy flip an epic love song into a BIG FAT SEND.
*insert creasing Loukia here*
He is a very angry young man these days. VERY angry.
Anyway. Here's his F64 for SBTV which I actually adore:
I still love you Chippy even though comparing League of My Own to your recent offering, is like comparing cake to sprouts.
